FromTheDepthsAfter what seemed like months of very slow conversation from our Shellack Turtle Island friend we finally have a full sentence! Unfortunately the sentence contains a lot of "HELP!" and "IT'S COMING!" with a few "IT'S HERE!" and finally a bit of "SAVE ME, I mean, US!" Checking it out, Skysliccer? notices a light ascending from the depths and the party decide to descend to check it out. Inverting a small row boat and sealing it against leakage, Sky, Fletcher and Tony descend the depths in a makeshift submarine inexpertly crafted with the wonderful crafting skills of Tony the Ships Untrained Carpenter.  The initial descent tells us little we don't already know, an ominous light ascends!  Soon however the foe reveals itself, some luminescence sea creature (referenced as a Kraken, but who the hell knows what it REALLY was) Determined to prevent the creature from harming our turtelly friend, the small party attack with little success. In fact generally the creature does nothing except ascent inexorably towards the surface. In one especially glorious moment, Tony attempts to fire his cursed pistol at the creature from within the upturned boat and proceeds to blow out his ear drums. Nothing else (except pride) was hurt. Fletcher proceeds to swim over to the creature and cling on the head while Sky manages to stick a blade into it's flesh and hang on for dear life as it ascends.  Closer to the surface we discover there is some sort of damage or hole in the creatures forehead. Possibly where the light tentacle is retracted when not in use? Regardless, the party decides to concentrate their fire on this apparent weak spot. And week it turns out to be! Triple damage at LEAST! Though attacking that area causes the creature to stop and attach anything on or near it's head with deadly accuracy. Tony meanwhile without Fletcher or any ballast on the upturned boat, pops to the surface like a cork and awaits the creature there. Preparing to fire as it appears. Tony misses.  On the surface the battle continues, Fletcher stabbing the fleshy part and trying to burrow in, Sky lighting bolting it here and there, and Tony being flung off and tossed 60 feet away every time he tries to climb on to try and fight. This happened a lot. Tony gained swimming experience doing this. Partly due to the being tossed into the water thing, Tony attempts to expel air from the bladders as some sort of motor and reach the creature. He eventually runs out of bladders, but it was a good idea while it lasted. Further skull stabbing and a near death experience from Fletcher (who is killed by a desperate creature trying to dislodge him from it's flesh, is brought back as part of his compact with ... others....) Sky and the creatures controlling Fletcher work together, unknowingly, to bring a bolt of lighting down on the creature, directly into the things body, causing *EXACTLY* the right amount of damage to reduce the thing top half it's health, the signal for it to flee. I mean, literally, EXACTLY the right amount. And it had made it's save too! 84 points of damage on the nose! Now this bit didn't happen but if the creature had gotten to the island we would have seen this bit and everyone could have tried to loot the place as it was being destroyed... Oh well, some discussion with a grateful turtle resulted in some loot at any rate.  |
